QUILT BLOCK COOKBOOK BOM MEETS

The morning group of the Quilt Block Cookbook BOM met recently at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, members show the block that they made this month.
More members show their blocks.

Dawn in the evening group shows us her block too.

Marjorie from Utah sent pictures of the last two blocks she made.

WARNING!  Actually it is more that you should be aware, but I wanted to get your attention. Cathy and I received a notice that there are mistakes in the first printing of the Quilt Block Cookbook by Amy Gibson.  You can go to her website and get the information.  I would recommend making the changes right in your book.  If you can't find them on her site, let me know and I'll send them to you.

This is the block we will be working on next month.  It is Recipe #1, First Kiss.

We had some show-n-tell too!  Amanda shows us this adorable wall hanging that she made.  It is her own design and she plans to enter it into a contest.  I hope she wins!

BARB IS QUEEN THIS MONTH AT AW BEE HIVE

Barb was the Queen this month when the Bees in The Attic Bee Hive met today at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.
These are the blocks we gave her.  There were far too many to put them on the cape we usually drape over the Queen.  This is going to make a stunning quilt!
Some previous queens have completed their quilt, so we had show-n-tell.  Above Cheryl show us her finished quilt from the blocks we gave her.
This is a closer look at the quilt.  What a warm quilt.  It just invites you to cuddle with it.
You may remember, almost a year ago when we started the Bee, I was the first Queen.  I finally finished putting the quilt together.  The women all made wonky blocks for me.  Isn't it cute!

OLD BOM AND NEW BOM

Marilyn K. sent me pictures from the Farm Girl BOM held at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  This BOM is wrapping up this month.  Above is Marilyn's lovely quilt top.  Marilyn and Sue C. hosted this BOM.  They will be starting a new BOM in May.  It will be from the book El's Attic.  You can read more about it here.
Above is Sue with her quilt top.
And this is Julie B.'s quilt top.  I'm amazed how different each quilt is, yet they are from the same pattern.  I love each one!   I bet El's Attic will be just as much fun.  I understand it will be offered in two different colorways.  Call the shop to register for this BOM. You won't want to miss it!

A special thank you to Marilyn for sending pictures.  These quilt tops are stunning!

WHAT HAVE YOU MADE LATELY?

The Happy Scrappers met at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this past Saturday.  Above, Marti shows us this lovely bag that she just made.
This is a closeup of the bag.  So cute.  One can never have too many bags.
This is another quilt that Marti just finished.  She was hand sewing the binding on Saturday.  So pretty.

It was a beautiful 59 degrees here in Michigan on Saturday and our attendance was low.  I hear some were on retreat, Rosa was on vacation, Janalee had a wedding to go to, Mary had car trouble and I imagine some ladies just wanted to be outside and experience this unheard of February weather. So Lee Anne, Marti, Diana, and I held down the fort.

I worked on this paper pieced project.  Not happy with it, but it was a test project.  More news on that later.

MORE NEW FABRIC AT ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP

When at the Attic Window Quilt Shop this past weekend, Diana told me that more new fabric had arrived. Since I was busy with Happy Scrappers, she took pictures and sent them to me.  Above is Woodsy Wonders by Henry Glass.
This is a panel of the same line.
And this shows all the coordinating fabrics.

And closeups of those luscious fabrics.
Above is a panel for making a counting book.  I think it is also part of the Woodsy Wonders line.
These gorgeous fabrics also arrived at the shop.  They are by Robert Kaufmann.  Be sure and stop in at the shop this week and check out these stunning fabrics.

A special thank you to Diana for sending the pictures!

APRIL PLACE MAT

Are you a gatherer or an assessor.  Assessors only gather what they will use...and not just someday.  They have a purpose in mind and don't bother stockpiling.  I must be a gatherer because I see a pattern or a book I like and I buy it and stockpile!  I'm not ashamed of that.  Just look at this place mat that I made from Kim Schaefer's Calendar Runners, a pattern I purchased years ago.  This pattern packet includes table runners and place mats appropriate for each month of the year.  When thinking ahead about how I would change things in my house for the month of April, I remembered this pattern and had to make it.
Above is a close up of the flowers and some of the quilting.
And above shows you the different quilting in the side borders.  It was a fun project.  You can get the pattern at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  In fact, Chris has asked about a Place mat of the Month class.  Anyone interested?

HOW ABOUT SOME EPP?

I stopped in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop today when Diana's EPP Bee was in session.  I needed some instructions on starting a new project.  However, when I saw this stunning EPP that Julie B. was working on (shown above), I was overwhelmed.  I want to make something beautiful like that.  After taking a deep breath, I bought some fabric and decided it best that I go home and think about what I want to do.  I can't wait to see more of Julie's quilt. She is such an inspiration.  If you want to see the previous Millefiori quilt that Julie made, look here. She does outstanding work.

DID YOU GET ALL FOUR?

I just remembered that I didn't show you the table runner on display at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. Each shop participating in the Heart of Winter Bus Tour designed a block.  The Attic Window Quilt Shop  designed the top block with the sewing machine.  Each shop had its block kit available for purchase on the day of the Tour.  Participants of the Bus Tour who purchased kits from all four shops received a free wall hanger.
There were other beautiful wall hangings in the shop that day (and still there).  I'm sorry but I don't know who made this sample.
I made this one, but forgot to get the name of the pattern, but you can find it at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.
I have to show you this.  It has nothing to do with the Bus Tour, but is just another case of my not paying attention.  I saw a cute Dresden on another blog and decided I would make it.  I downloaded the free pattern and last week cut the blades and stitched them.  This morning I stitched them together and ...what? Why isn't this a complete circle?  I was sure I counted right; it was supposed to have 16 blades.  I went back to look at the PDF file I downloaded.  Then I went to the blog and searched...only to find that it was not the regular Dresden ruler that I should have used.  Ugh.  I don't know about me sometimes.  Guess I'll find something else to do with these blades.  Any suggestions?

ATTIC WINDOW QUILT SHOP HOSTS BUS TOUR

The Heart of Winter Tour was this past weekend with four quilt shops participating in this fun-filled event.  The first bus to arrive at the Attic Window Quilt Shop was from Kalamazoo Quilts Plus.  I snapped a picture of the queen who was the first to get off the bus.
Here you can see the nice bus driver helping the ladies off the bus.
As each bus arrived, they had about an hour and a half to shop before they got back on the bus to be driven to their next stop.
Above, Marilyn gives a demonstration on how to use the Creative Grids Strippy Stars tool.

Look at all the different size stars you can make with this one tool! You can make blocks in the range of 3 1/2" to 14" unfinished.  What a deal!

The women shopped and then they were on their way.
Because of previous commitments I was unable to stay the entire day and missed the bus from Portland and the arrival of the Attic Window bus back home where they were treated to dinner.  But I did get back to the shop in time to see the bus from Quilted Memories in Montague arrive.
There was plenty of time to shop.

  And watch Marilyn's demonstration
Chris was busy at the cutting table helping a customer.
A very special thanks goes to Chris and all the other participants in this fun event.  These shop owners provided lunch and dinner and snacks and drinks for the bus riders.  I know a lot of time and effort went into planning this event and making sure everyone enjoyed themselves.  I look forward to attending next year.
