DO YOU KNOW AN EASY WAY TO MAKE THIS BLOCK?

Please!  Please!  Please!  Never have me make this block again!  Yikes!  I think I did more ripping than sewing.  The above block is called Millstone in the Quick and Easy Block Tool.  It is the block we had to make for the Sampler series at the Attic Window Quilt Shop. I did get a lot of practice on my piecing (and ripping) and I did stretch my skills (that is why I participate). However, I think you can understand why I put this one off for so long. The first Sampler class is Saturday.  At least I got it done in time!

NEW APPLIQUE AND NEW FABRICS

I have some more new fabrics to show you but first I want to show you this cute table topper that my friend Misti made.  Several years ago I showed her how I do appliqué.  Since then she has gone to town making beautiful items like this.  If I remember correctly, this is her own design too.  I’m so proud of her.
Above are some new batik fabrics in at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  These are from Hoffman Fabrics.
These batiks are also from Hoffman Fabrics.  Looks like perfect fabrics for those holiday items.
This fabric isn’t new, but I love it and had to show it to you.  It is called Fun and is from Timeless Treasures.  Isn’t it cute!

DON’T FORGET:

APPLIQUE BEE AND SOME SHOW-N-TELL

The Applique Bee met Tuesday afternoon at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  Above, Mary Ellen shows us the quilt that she is just finishing for her niece Becky, who is expecting her first baby.  The quilt is a strippy nine patch.  There is something about those 30s fabrics.  They are so fresh and clean looking!
Gerry shows us her latest scrappy quilt.  Gerry does wonders with scraps.  This is a friendship star inside a friendship star.  She said the pattern was for a wallhanging, but she added the sashings and made a lap quilt.  Beautiful!
It was lost but now it’s found.  I got home from sewing at the shop the other day and was so tired that I didn’t unload my bags until Sunday.  That was when I realized that the cute little thread catcher that Rosa gave me was not to be found.  I panicked.  Where is it?  Today when I went to the Bee I discovered it sitting on the table where I had left it.  Wheeee!  Thank you Rosa for this cute little thread catcher.  I love it.
I made a collage of those attending the Applique Bee.  Above, left, Lee Anne works on her Grandmother’s Flower Garden.  Middle, Erma joined us and worked on her Whimsical Garden.  Top right, Diana works on her tatting.  Bottom right, Cathy does machine appliqué.

Sitting and sewing with fellow quilters is always so much fun!  This is an open Bee and anyone can join us at any time, however, we probably won’t meet again until January as this Bee and the Mod Squad are scheduled to meet the days before Thanksgiving and Christmas.  I feel certain everyone will be very busy on those two days.  Chris said the shop will be open and anyone can drop by and sit for a while and sew if they have the time.

WHAT WILL YOU MAKE WITH THESE NEW FABRICS?

New fabrics arrived at the Attic Window Quilt Shop last Saturday.  As Jill opened the boxes and placed the fabrics on the shelves, I took pictures.  Above is Sew Simple by Andover Fabrics.
This is Walkabout also by Andover Fabrics.
Above is Purrsnickity by Red Rooster Designs.
These are still wrapped in cellophane but I wanted you to see them too.  This line is From Paris With Love by Wilmington.

Jill was still opening boxes when I left so maybe I can take more pictures tomorrow when I’m at the shop for the Applique Bee.

LEE ANNE IS A GOOD SPORT

Lee Anne had a London City Bag class scheduled to teach this past Saturday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  However, there was one small snag.  Three of us, who were registered to take the class, decided during our class on Monday with Vickie, to take those blocks we made that day, and use them to make the Strip Street Bag instead.  Lee Anne previously held this class and you can read about it here.  Lee Anne is such a good sport.  She didn't care and is always so helpful.  That's why when I want to make a bag, I take a class from her!
We love this Strip Street Bag pattern.  It is by Quilted Memories.  It is quick to make.  However, above is Rosa working on her two hour bag five months later.   A good part of our day was spent teasing Rosa about that time lag.
Rosa said, “The first bag went so fast that now I’m going to start a new one.”  Rosa is using the blocks she made last week in Vickie’s Four-Patch Slash class.
Donna is making her blocks from the Four-Patch Slash class into a bag too.
Then there is Diana...she is not making the bag but is going to make a full quilt from her Four-Patch Slash blocks.  Even though she was not making the bag on Saturday, she joined us and continued to sew more of her Four-Patch Slash blocks.  I think she likes us.  I know we love having Diana sew with us too.
During the day, Catherine stopped in at the shop and showed us another Lone Star Swirl that she had just finished.
This is another view of that stunning quilt!
I previously told you I would show you the blocks I made at Vickie’s Four-Patch class.  I forgot to take a picture of the before blocks, but above you can see them in my completed Strip Street Bag.
This is another view.  I love this pattern and find the bag so useful!  I’m tempted to keep it for myself, but will have restraint as it is a gift for my aunt.

QUILTS, BOOKS, CLASSES

Judi A. took the above picture and is sharing it with us.  This is what she said, “Hi, I took a picture of Melanie P.'s quilt that she made out of the fat quarters that she won at the Attic Window for being the first person to bring in her finished Row By Row quilt.”
Melanie also made this lovely Cardinal quilt.  She got the pattern and fabrics from the Attic Window.
A special thank you to Judi for sharing these pictures of these beautiful quilts!
There are some new books in at the shop.
 And these.
And these.  See anything of interest?
Marilyn made this darling T-Shirt dress as a sample for the class she will be teaching next month.  The class is Friday, Nov. 7th.  This would make a darling Christmas gift!

THE MOD SQUAD MEETS AT THE AW

The Mod Squad (Modern Bee) met Wednesday at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  First off we had show-n-tell.  Above, Rosa shows us this stunning quilt that she is making for her son.  Rosa spent the day making and sewing the binding for this king size quilt!
Marti showed us this darling autumn wall hanging.  We thought those maple leaves looked like they were blowing in the wind.
At my insistence, Marti showed us this Jelly Roll quilt.  She said we have seen it before and she was just sewing on the binding.  I had to get another picture of this beautiful quilt.
Peggy (left) and Judi (right) shows us these Lil Twister quilts that they made.  Both are made with Halloween fabrics.  They are so cute!
Peggy had her QAYG blocks laid out on the floor so she could see how she wanted to put then together. I thought this a good time to snap a picture!  Love those blocks.
Diana was there, but took some time off to help a student from her Tatting Class.
Later, Diana got busy and cut batik fabrics for her Four-Patch Slice and Insert quilt.  Notice the tall pile of fabric in the background waiting to be cut into squares.
Rosa shows us all the binding she is working on for her son’s quilt.
Cathy worked on her modern blocks.  I forget the name of the pattern but will tell you more about it when I get a picture of the entire quilt.
And I made fabric.  When I was trying to decide what to work on, I remembered something Jacquie Gering said that she did, which was to grab a handful of fabrics from her red scrap bin and another from her green scrap bin and allowed herself to use only those when she made blocks for her quilt.  She used her scraps in a different way, but I used mine to make fabric.  I love this block from my red scrap bin.
And this is the block from my green scrap bin.  I love using scraps and making something from nothing.  I think I’ll continue making these 10” blocks and put them into a quilt.  What a fun day we had!

DON’T FORGET:
  • Vickie’s finishing class for her spiral lone star quilt that is Thursday, Oct. 23, 10 a.m.

A FIRST PLACE WINNER

Have you seen this stunning quilt?  It is hanging up front at the Attic Window Quilt Shop
Above, Jane B. shows us her wonderful quilt. Jane won first place at the recent West Michigan Quilt Guild show.  Her category was Two Person-Mixed and Other-Machine Quilted, Over 75”.  The pattern is Calendula Patterndrip’s Cottage by Crabapple Hill.  Here is what the Quilts On The Grand program said about Jane’s quilt:  “This quilt has everything you would expect to find in Calendula Patterdrip’s Cottage: Potion bottles, spell books, hobgoblin earwax, just normal stuff.  Shading was done with crayons.  Jane made the top and it was quilted by Bonnie Rhoby.
This is another quilt by Jane.  She does beautiful work.
Above, Peggy shows us the quilt she made for her grandson’s wedding.  Kelsey K. VanBonn and Ronald N. Kamenski were married on Oct. 10 of this year.  What an awesome quilt.

A special thank you goes to Diana who took these pictures and sent them to me.  Great job!

MAKE A FOUR-PATCH WITH VICKIE

Vickie S. held her 4-Patch Strip class today at the Attic Window Quilt Shop.  I took a picture of one of these fabulous instruction boards that she creates for her classes.
Above, Vickie explains each step in our block-making process.  I couldn't figure out where it got the name four-patch.  I thought it looked like a nine patch to me.  Then Vickie showed me that you sew four patches together and then you slice and insert.  This is a fun block to make.
Above Rosa shows us her first block.
 Donna shows us her block.
 Diana made a block too.
 Peggy shows us her block.
We were productive during this all day class.  Above Rosa irons her many blocks.
And Peggy is busy sewing her blocks.
And Peggy is busy sewing her blocks.

Donna had to leave early, but the rest of us stayed way past end of class making more blocks. We were having such a good time we didn’t want to stop. You can tell I’m tired.  I have lots of pictures and not much to say.  I’m just too tired to write a lot about this fun class.

I just realized I never even took pictures of my blocks and I’m way too tired to go dig them out of the bags in my sewing room. You can see my blocks and more of some of the other student's blocks as we are going to use them to make a bag with Lee Anne during her Bag class on Saturday.

DON’T FORGET:
  • Pineapple Ruler, Wednesday, Oct. 22, 10-4.
  • CANCELLED.  Vickie’s finishing class for her spiral lone star quilt that was scheduled for Thursday, Oct. 9, has been cancelled and RESCHEDULED for Thursday, Oct. 23, 10 a.m.
